Det Norske Veritas Foundation research funding

From 2026, Det Norske Veritas Foundation will fund basic scientific research. The research topics are autonomous systems, critical raw materials and societal risks.

Det Norske Veritas Foundation is a freestanding, autonomous and independent foundation whose purpose is to safeguard life, property and the environment. The Foundation will further contribute to its purpose by funding basic scientific research.

In 2026, the Foundation launches its first call for applications, focused on the following research topics:

Autonomous

Basic research to understand risks and uncertainties to ensure that autonomous systems can operate safely, reliably and ethically.

Autonomous

Basic research on strategic raw materials, related to discovery, extraction and processing, as well as the development of new alternatives and circular solutions.

Societal Risk

Basic research on how climate hazards and growing digital dependence increase risk for critical infrastructure, and what this means for its reliability, availability, safety, and security.

Webinar 2 June 2026: New research funding opportunity – what the 2026 call is about

Det Norske Veritas Foundation has launched its 2026 research call, offering up to NOK 100 million in grants to advance basic scientific research in autonomous systems, critical raw materials, and societal risks. This initiative aims to strengthen resilience and sustainability in a rapidly evolving world.

This webinar explores how investment in knowledge within autonomous systems, critical raw materials, and societal risks helps society operate safely and responsibly

The speakers explain how technological, environmental, and societal risks interact, and where key knowledge gaps remain.

Speakers

  • Sharmini Alagaratnam, project coordinator and PhD, Det Norske Veritas Foundation
  • Christian Agrell, Programme Director AI Assurance, DNV
  • Rune Torhaug, Strategy Director, DNV
